Drawing on Deuteronomy 22:10, Paul prohibits Christians from forming close relationships with unbelievers. A series of five rhetorical questions amplify the problematic nature of such relationships as Paul unveils the moral and spiritual antithesis that exists between believers and unbelievers and the absurdity of seeking to share intimate relations with those who are apart from Christ. Ultimately Paul grounds the prohibition against maintaining such relationships in the covenantal standing and identity of believers who are claimed and indwelt by the Lord.
