Responding to false charges made by Corinthian “super apostles,” Paul expounded upon the theme of Christian warfare. Three terms describe the basic elements of Christian warfare: destroying fortresses, taking captives, and exercising vengeance. All Christians are to take the battle to the sworn enemies of Christ, the devil, the world, and the flesh, by using spiritual weapons which are mighty through God.
