When a sister named Tabitha, a disciple of Jesus with a life adorned with good works, unexpectedly passed away, the saints in Joppa sent for Peter. While in Lydda, Peter had healed Aeneas of paralysis which sparked a region wide spiritual revival. The grieving saints in Joppa having heard of this miracle sent for Peter in the hope that he might restore Tabitha to life. Upon arrival, Peter saw the sorrow of the widows and dropped to his knees in prayer. What happened next was unthinkable: God raised Tabitha from the dead, restoring her soul to her body and in so doing declared His approbation for works of mercy like Tabitha had performed and certified the message of his servant Peter.
