A Resume for Ministry

2 Corinthians 6:3-10

Contemporary senior pastor job descriptions are full of a host of duties not found anywhere in scripture and are filled with quantitative language and concepts of contemporary management and leadership ideology. Paul’s resume for ministry is on the other hand filled with qualitative language which speaks to the moral, spiritual, and personal qualities of a true Christian pastor and is confirmed by an appeal to Paul’s own set of rugged ministerial experiences. The purpose of this resume is as Calvin says, “to procure authority for himself and those like him” or to “restore it where it has fallen into decay” and to “call back the Corinthians from an unreasonable attachment to the false apostles” which has hindered the Corinthians from making progress in the gospel.”
