With jealousy planted deep down in their hearts, the Sanhedrin put the apostles under arrest and threw them in jail publicly. During the night, the angel of the Lord set the apostles free from captivity and commissioned them to preach in the temple. When the apostles were recovered by the authorities, they were beaten, threatened, and commanded not to preach in Jesus’ name. Verse 42 tells the story of apostolic resolve: they continued daily in the temple and from house to house teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. The apostles were battered but they were not broken and the word spread mightily.
