Descent Into Egypt

Acts 7:9-16
Overview: As Stephen continues on in is defense before the Council, he transitions from Abraham to Joseph. In previous verses, Stephen noted that the promise of the land to Abraham would not be fulfilled until 400 years after they had been enslaved in a foreign land. The key link between this promise and its fulfillment was God-s leading Joseph to Egypt which in the Lord-s providence drew the whole family of Jacob to follow in his wake. By sending Joseph ahead of Jacob and the rest of his family, the Lord foreshadowed the ultimate spiritual deliverance of His people from sin through Jesus Christ. Once again, Stephen showed that in God-s being with Joseph in Egypt that the Lord had long been at work in His people far beyond the walls of the Jerusalem temple and the confines of the land of Palestine.
