The Gospel Under Attack

Acts 15:1-5
The inclusion of the Gentiles into the Christian church proved to be a thorny problem for some believing Jews. Some wanted to set up certain requirements, circumcision and obedience to the Law of Moses, for entrance into church membership. Whether it was consciously understood or not by those making the proposal, such requirements represented not a standard for membership but an attack on the gospel. To add anything to faith in Christ for salvation is to preach a different gospel. Naturally when teachers from Judaism preached this “gospel” in Antioch, Paul vigorously opposed it since he correctly perceived what it was, the gospel under attack
