Good Reasons for Christian Giving

2 Corinthians 8:7-15

After assessing the Corinthian failure to complete the Jerusalem offering project, Paul seems to have put his finger on a significant reason for the Corinthians incompletion: a change in understanding. It appears that somewhere along the line the Corinthians began to view their participation in this project as all wrong from the start; instead of following through on their commitment, they dropped it altogether. To address this changed mindset, Paul sets forth reasons for completing the project. The basic appeal Paul makes to the Corinthians is that financial giving to fellow Christians who are in need is necessary because it manifests our love to Christ when we give according to our ability in order to promote equality among Christians.
