No Respecter of Persons

In view of Peter’s vision, the visit from Cornelius’ servants, and Cornelius invitation to speak everything God had commanded, he received a whole new insight: God does not respect persons. The theological basis of this declaration is the universal lordship of Christ as Peter summarizes his main point in verse 36 saying, that, “Jesus Christ is Lord of all.” The practical implications of this insight emerge in verse 43 as Peter proclaims that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Simply stated, this new insight is that the promise of the gospel together with the command to repent and believe is to be proclaimed to all persons promiscuously and without distinction (Canons of Dordt 2:5).
